Peace Neighborhood Center’s Summer Youth Services include the “Youth on the Move” Summer Day Camp (SDC) for elementary youth, the Leadership Development Camp (LDC) for middle school youth and the 9th Grade Academy for students entering high school. These programs work together to complement Peace’s after school programs and help more than 150 children make productive use of what might otherwise have been unsupervised idle time. The “Youth on the Move” Summer Day Camp Program was established in 1982 and has evolved into Peace’s Summer Youth Services – one of our most successful programs. Over the last 30 plus years, Peace has served over 1,000 different young people through its summer programs. Each camper has received the care and attention of staff members while learning valuable lessons about themselves and their community. An entire generation of young people has had a richer childhood because of Summer Youth Services at Peace.
Campers participate in structured recreational activities, one-on-one tutoring, and enrichment groups focused on topics such as science, drama, music, computer skills, and character-building. They are served a nutritious breakfast and lunch every day and are taken to local parks, museums, and educational sites in buses. Peace transports many of the campers to and from their homes in the mornings as well as the afternoons.
